ABDOU GUITE SECK         “The Golden Voice”

At the age of 13, Abdou Guité Seck was considered in his native village of St Louis in Senegal as a singer with a golden voice and great artistic gifts.

It established his reputation as an artist and explains his amazing career in the world of music where his passion for writing songs enabled him to reach the highest standards from an early age.

In 1996, he becomes the vocal leader of a Franco-Senegalese group called “Wock” ( Wo standing for Wolof- being the actual official language in Senegal - and ck for Rock )
Thus, combining rock and mbalakh ( a popular music from Senegal ), the group soon achieves a fame which reaches far beyond Senegal itself especially after his first album of an afropop style “ Keeman” ( meaning Miracle ) was signed and released with the major BMG in 1999.

The beauty of his melodies along with the depth of his lyrics and his professionalism led the way and helped him to take part in numerous artistic events of international reputation (for instance : Festival Nuits Métisses, Fiesta des Docks, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Festival International de Jazz de St Louis …) as well as offering him the opportunity to work with international stars as famous as Phil Collins, Carlos Santana, Richard Bona, Youssou NDour, Ismael Lo, and the famous and greatly missed Joe Zawinul…

Prize-winner of “Découvertes Rfi”
Nominated for the famous French music awards in 2001 in the category of best world music album of the year.

In 2000, with his group Wock, he is prize-winner of “Découvertes Rfi”.  The following year, he is nominated in the prestigious category of best world music album of the year at the French music awards in Paris.

But this puts an end to his adventure as a leading vocalist . Indeed, Abdou decides to start a solo career wiser for his previous experience. He starts his own band named “Evolution” and his musical editing company called “AGS Music” and produces his first solo opus named “Evolution”. A mbalack and world music crossover dealing with his main interests among which : childhood, love, hope, education and universal peace. Everywhere, from Senegal to the neighbouring countries, he is met by a larger and won-over audience who applaud his songs during his summer music tour “Eté show de Abdou Guité Seck”.

In 2003, “Coono Aduna”, meaning “life trials”,  is released and unanimously applauded by the critics who underline the exceptional quality of the music since it mixes beautifully traditional Senegalese music with international musical influences. This music is called “Afrofusion” . The album soon becomes the best-selling album in Senegal. Along with this huge commercial success, Abdou Guité becomes an undisputed music star in his native land. CDs, DVDs and VHS all entitled “Coono Evolution” are even sold on an international scale.

Abdou Guité represents Senegal during the 2005 games of French- speaking countries in Niamey, Niger.

The following year, in Guinea, Abdou Guité wins a new award during the official reception called “Djembé d’Or”.  Parallel to that, in 2004, he becomes finalist for the “RFI world music award “ in Mali .
At the very same time, he is selected by an international jury to represent Senegal during the 2005 games of French-speaking countries in Niamey, Niger.

Here is the beginning of a new carreer : Abdou’s group starts a great tour across Europe and the USA where thousands of fans await for them. June 2005, coming out of the first international album called “Dekaalé” meaning “neighbourhood “.

In 2006, the first live album sees the light “ Summer show “/ Eté show. To be found in this new recording the most famous songs from his previous album plus an unpublished work dedicated to all the fans committed in the causes he also defends.

PLANS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE AND THE NEXT ALBUM...

After five solo albums unanimously acclaimed, Abdou Guité is asked to join in various artistic projects across the world.

At the moment, he is working in Europe on a new album which should offer him the opportunity to meet a new audience and enable him to express all his creativeness, playing a new repertoire.

Passionate, enthusiast and hard-working, Abdou Guité is also working on a new opus about his native land along with his group.
